The Baamdaad House of Poetry in Exile active in supporting the right to freedom of expression and against any kind of censorship and repression. We are a collective of poets around the world who are active in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, especially women, girls, artists and all vulnerable groups in Afghanistan.
Baamdaad House of Poetry in Exile, unequivocally condemn the Taliban's recent decrees that ban poetry, art, and the fundamental right of women to speak publicly. These draconian measures represent a grave assault on freedom of expression, creativity, and the very essence of human dignity.
Poetry and art are not mere luxuries; they are vital expressions of the human spirit. They are the tools through which we, as humans, communicate our deepest fears, hopes, and dreams. By banning these forms of expression, the Taliban seeks to silence the very voices that define our shared humanity and culture.
Particularly egregious is the Taliban's targeting of women, forbidding them not only from creating art but from speaking publicly. This act is a violent erasure of half of Afghanistan's population from public and cultural life. It is an attempt to suppress the voices that are essential to the nation's identity and future.
We, the poets of the world, condemn the Taliban's " declaration of vice and virtue laws “in the strongest terms!
Within the framework of this law, the Taliban can easily arrest, torture and imprison citizens, especially women, in Afghanistan. Stoning and whipping will be held in public squares and basic human rights will be taken away from them by this law. For this reason, we ask the international community and human rights organizations to:
1- Take serious and immediate action to prevent the implementation of this law and prevent the Taliban from implementing this anti-human law.
2- The international community should recognize this law as a crime and a clear violation of human rights. Based on this action, a lawsuit should be filed against the Taliban leaders in the Hague court.
3- Recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan and criminalize this law that systematically discriminates and excludes women from society.
We stand in solidarity with all Afghan poets, artists, and women who continue to resist oppression with their words, their art, and their courage. We call upon the international community to reject these inhumane rules and to support the Afghan people in their struggle for freedom and justice.
At Baamdaad House of Poetry in Exile, we remain committed to providing a platform for those whose voices have been silenced. We will continue to share the works of Afghan poets and artists who refuse to be silenced by tyranny. Their resilience is a beacon of hope, reminding us all that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit remains unbroken.
